The Omron M6 Comfort with AFib detection is an excellent upper arm blood pressure monitor. The blood pressure monitor was introduced on the Dutch market in January 2020. This blood pressure monitor contains the very latest technologies in the field of blood pressure measurement. The M6 Comfort is the successor to the award-winning Omron M6 Comfort blood pressure monitor series 2015-2019. This new model shows improvements in several areas. The blood pressure monitor looks different from its predecessor, among other things. The screen is elongated and a lot bigger. More information is visible on the screen. This is how you see it extended display you can see on the right-hand side the measured blood pressure values and on the left-hand side the measured blood pressure values from the previous time. The large display is also very handy when viewing the memory and calculating the weekly morning and evening averages.
The Omron M6 Comfort is easy to use due to its oneone-button operation. By pressing the button, the blood pressure monitor starts measuring immediately. If you hold the button down for more than 3 seconds, the 3-way measurement mode is activated. In 3-fold mode, the blood pressure monitor will take 3 measurements in a row. There is a 30 second rest between each measurement. At the end of the 3 measurements, an average blood pressure value will be calculated. If one of the measurements is incorrect, the blood pressure monitor will automatically take a 1de measurement.
During the 3-fold measurement, the automatic AFib detection takes place. Atrial fibrillation is an irregular heart rhythm which can cause a stroke. The AFib technology is therefore also called stroke prevention. If atrial fibrillation is detected, it will be displayed on the screen with a symbol. This is not something to immediately be worried about. If the symbol appears regularly, it is recommended to consult your doctor. The AFib detection has an accuracy of 94,2%.
The Omron M6 Comfort is a clinically validated blood pressure monitor. The blood pressure monitor complies with the strict ESH 2010 protocol. You can therefore assume that the measurements are reliable when used correctly. This is also stated on the international Dabl list. The Heart Foundation also recommends using a blood pressure monitor that has been clinically validated.
The Omron M6 Comfort with AFib blood pressure monitor has 2 personal profiles. This allows you to easily separate the measurements for calculating the average for you and your partner. Every profile has 100 memory spaces at its disposal. It is also possible to use a guest mode. If a measurement is taken in guest mode it is not stored in the memory.
The blood pressure monitor can easily calculate the different averages. The average of the last 3 measurements in the last 10 minutes, the average of the morning or evening, and the weekly average. By using averages you will know more accurately what the blood pressure is. The morning average is the average of the measurements taken in the morning (4:00 - 9:59) from Sunday to Saturday. The 2 or 3 measurements taken in the morning within the first 10 minutes between 4:00 and 9:59 are used to calculate the morning average for each day. If the morning weekly average is above 135/85 mmHg, then it indicates that you have morning hypertension. The blood pressure monitor will then indicate this with a symbol. The evening average is the average of the measurements taken in the evening (19:00 - 1:59) from Sunday to Saturday. The 2 or 3 measurements taken in the evening within the last 10 minutes between 19:00 PM and 1:59 PM are used to calculate the evening average for each day.
You will also find a heart rate monitor with irregular heart rate detection on the Omron M6 Comfort. If an irregular heartbeat is detected, this will be indicated with a symbol. In addition, there is a motion sensor that displays whether there has been movement during the measurement. Finally, there is a cuff wrapping guide that indicates whether the cuff is properly attached.
The M6 Comfort comes with it Omron Intelliwrap cuff. This cuff (HEM-FL31) is a preformed cuff. Many people find this cuff to be comfortable. A preformed cuff is a somewhat hard tube that can be fitted by the user himself. You slide the tube over the arm. The advantage of a preformed cuff is that the measurement is more accurate. A traditional flexible cuff measures at only 1 point on the upper arm. The Omron Intelliwrap cuff measures 360 degrees around the upper arm. The cuff is suitable for upper arms in the size medium and large. This corresponds to an upper arm circumference of between 22 and 42 centimeters. This is suitable for most people. A smaller (<22 centimeters) or larger (>42 centimeters) size is not available.
The Omron M6 Comfort uses the patented Omron Intellisense ™ technology. Thanks to this technology, the cuff is never over-inflated. The cuff is precisely inflated to get an accurate reading. Due to this pumping technique, the cuff feels comfortable when it is inflated.
If you want the same model but with the smartphone functionality, we recommend that you look at the Omron M7 IntelliIT. That is exactly the same blood pressure monitor, only it can be connected to your smartphone via Bluetooth.
